Hi! I'm Ángela. I work with watercolor and colored pencils, specializing in portraits—but I also capture anything that catches my eye.
I seek a true connection in every stroke, regardless of the species: human, animal… or even a robot. For me, a portrait begins when the drawing looks back at me.
I have a non-negotiable ritual when creating: I always start with the gaze. I follow a strict order, drawing the right eye first and then the left. Only when both are ready do I begin to feel comfortable in front of the paper; it’s that magical moment when I notice the drawing is following me with its eyes, as if asking with complicity: "And now what?" «¿Y ahora?».
For over 20 years, I worked in IT, managing projects in large companies that had absolutely nothing to do with art. At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, I lost my job, a difficult situation that I shared with many citizens around the world. During that time, I tried to keep my technical skills sharp, but I realized I was deeply burnt out and that this path had already taken a toll on my health. I didn't want to continue down that road.
My true journey began in 2021, after the historic Storm Filomena in Madrid. Thanks to the constant encouragement of a very dear friend, Marisa,I returned to my passion for painting. I fell in love with my art again. I started with watercolors and charcoal sketches, forcing myself to try every technique until I found my true place in art, especially with Polychromos colored pencils, and thoroughly enjoying mixing techniques.
Since then, I haven't stopped creating. I love stepping out of my comfort zone and facing new challenges, always seeking to capture the intimate, the tender, and the everyday with delicacy. I draw what surrounds us: faces, pets, corners, and objects that seem insignificant but hold great stories that deserve to be remembered.
